Creative Commons (CC) is a public nonprofit organization that seeks to make the sharing of creative material a bit easier. They build off of existing copyright laws by creating available licenses that creators of intellectual property can apply. CC has created several different license types that you can both use and/or apply to content you create.
CC licenses are a fantastic step forward in how copyright laws get applied. They make it simple and clear whether the original content creator is okay with you using their song, picture, or video clip in your own creation. If you find a piece of intellectual property that you’d like to use, and it has a CC license applied to it, just be sure you read the entire license and understand what it allows for.
Some licenses allow you to make money and some don’t. If you need help understanding the provisions allowed by the CC license, please visit the Creative Commons website for reference.
